fusionX Video and Photo Shoot: Behind the Scenes
A look behind the scenes at the production of the fusionX launch photography and video content.
Getting the fusionX on Camera
The fusionX is the most capable machine Noztek has produced — a high-temperature, twin-barrel extrusion system designed for researchers working at the absolute boundary of what desktop equipment can process. The brief for the shoot was straightforward: show the fusionX at operating temperature, processing high-performance material, with the visual quality and production values that a research customer would expect from serious equipment.
The Shoot Setup
The fusionX was set up in our facility running PEEK — one of the most demanding materials in regular use on the machine. High-temperature extrusion produces a particular visual quality in the melt emerging from the die that is difficult to capture without appropriate lighting and close focus. The camera team worked closely with our technical team to identify the angles and moments that best illustrated the machine's operation.
One challenge specific to high-temperature extrusion photography: thermal shimmer from the heated barrel creates visual distortion at certain angles and focal lengths. Working with this rather than against it — using it as a visual indicator of the extreme temperatures involved — became a deliberate part of the visual language of the shoot.
The Resulting Content
The photography and video content from this shoot now forms the basis of the fusionX product page on the Noztek website. Technical equipment deserves technical photography that communicates capability rather than just appearance.
