New Planetary Motor for the Noztek Pro and Touch
An upgraded planetary gearbox motor unit for the Noztek Pro and Touch extruders — delivering improved torque consistency, reduced noise, and extended service life.
The Rationale for Upgrading
The Noztek Pro and Touch represent the entry point to the Noztek range — accessible machines designed to introduce researchers, educators, and small-scale manufacturers to filament extrusion without the complexity or cost of the more advanced platforms. The new motor unit is not a fundamental redesign — the Pro and Touch remain open-loop DC systems. Rather, it is an upgrade to the gearbox design that addresses wear patterns observed in the field and introduces reduced operating noise.
What Changed
The planetary gearbox stage has been redesigned with improved gear tooth profiles and tightened manufacturing tolerances. The result is measurably lower backlash, smoother torque transmission, and a significant reduction in the characteristic gear noise that earlier units exhibited at certain speed ranges. The gearbox oil fill has been replaced with a lifetime-lubricated bearing design that eliminates this maintenance requirement.
Performance Characteristics
Peak torque output is marginally increased compared to the previous unit — useful for processing higher-viscosity materials at the upper end of what the Pro and Touch platforms support. The improvement is most noticeable when processing filled materials at lower screw speeds, where the previous gearbox could exhibit inconsistency under high torque demand.
Availability
The upgraded motor unit is fitted as standard on all new Pro and Touch machines from this date. Retrofit units for the existing installed base are available through the Noztek website. Compatible with all Pro and Touch variants manufactured since 2018.
