Roller Conveyor & FusionXL: Extending the Extrusion Line

Two new additions to the Noztek extrusion line ecosystem — the Roller Conveyor for controlled filament handling and the FusionXL for high-volume twin-screw compounding. Together they address the transition from laboratory-scale research to pilot production.

Closing the Gaps in the Extrusion Line

A complete extrusion line is more than an extruder. The filament that emerges from the die must be cooled, conveyed, measured, tensioned, and wound — and each of these stages introduces potential sources of variation if not properly managed. The Roller Conveyor and FusionXL address two persistent gaps identified by researchers building complete lines: controlled filament handling between cooling and pulling, and large-volume compounding capability.

The Roller Conveyor: Controlled Handling

Between the water bath and the puller, filament must travel a defined path without excessive tension, contact with abrasive surfaces, or unsupported spans that allow sag and deformation. For stiff materials this is relatively straightforward; for softer or higher-temperature materials with lower melt strength, unsupported spans are a significant source of diameter variation and surface defects.

The Noztek Roller Conveyor provides a series of low-friction, precision-aligned rollers that support the filament continuously through this section. The roller contact surfaces are selected to be non-abrasive against common filament materials and are designed for easy cleaning between material changes.

For high-temperature materials with low post-die melt strength — including many engineering polymers and composites — the roller conveyor can make the difference between consistent production and constant diameter problems.

The FusionXL: High-Volume Compounding

Twin-screw compounding offers dispersive and distributive mixing performance that far exceeds what a single-screw extruder can achieve. For composite formulations that require high filler loadings, precise dispersion of nano-fillers, or compounding of incompatible polymer blends, twin-screw processing is the appropriate technology.

The FusionXL brings co-rotating twin-screw compounding capability to the Noztek product range, designed for laboratory and pilot-scale compounding of research formulations. The screw configuration is modular, allowing the mixing intensity to be adjusted for different formulation requirements.
